WHY YOUR POWER GOES OUT

ON PURPOSE

POWER COMPANIES TURN OFF YOUR POWER TO PREVENT WILDFIRES, NOT BECAUSE SOMETHING IS "BROKEN"

WHAT IS A PSPS?

PUBLIC SAFETY POWER SHUTOFF

(PSPS)

A PSPS is a planned outage when fire risk is extreme:

- Hot, dry, windy weather

- Trees and branches can fall into power lines

That contact can create sparks, like striking a match

- In dry brush, those sparks can turn into a fast, out-of-control wildfire

- So SCE shuts the power off in high-risk areas until the dangerous weather passes.
No power → no sparks → less chance their equipment starts a fire.
